Is predictive analytics shaping the future of your business domain?

While data has always been used in business, things have changed. Domains like HR, Product Management, Customer Service, etc. are embracing predictive analytics to drive better business outcomes.

Do you think a lack of math/programming skills will hold your team back?

By focusing on the right techniques, any team can learn to apply predictive analytics to their business data. If your team has basic Microsoft Excel skills, they have all the background needed for predictive analytics.

Predictive analytics for any team - regardless of role.

Imagine a Product Management team that could answer the following question with data, "What feature usage(s) are highly predictive of a sticky customer?" How much value are they bringing to their organization?

Day 1

Predictive Analytics with Excel - Linear Regression Made Easy

In this hands-on class, your team will learn the fundamentals of applying linear regression to business data using Excel. In survey after survey, data professionals report linear regression is their go-to method for understanding and optimizing the business.

Using Excel’s out-of-the-box functionality makes linear regression analysis fun and easy—no, really!

After learning about the types of business problems that might benefit from linear regression analysis, your team will learn to use linear regression to answer interesting business questions such as:

  • If we spend more money here, how much uplift in the business should we expect?

  • What factors are most important in determining price/demand/supply?

  • Does the interaction of certain product features have a disproportionate effect?

  • Can we accurately predict future business performance?

This training is specifically designed for any team with Microsoft Excel skills looking to have more impact using data. Professionals from areas like HR, Marketing, IT, Product Management, and Supply Chain have all learned how to apply predictive analytics to their business data via this course.

Want to know the best part? No programming or difficult mathematics are required!

Your Team Will Learn:

  • The types of business problems where linear regression can be useful

  • Why the arithmetic mean (a.k.a., the average) is a predictive model

  • How simple linear regression improves upon the arithmetic mean

  • How to use Excel to train simple linear regression models

  • Ways to use Excel to train multiple linear regression models

  • How to interpret linear regression models in terms of business drivers

  • Ways to evaluate the effectiveness of your linear regression models

  • How to communicate your insights effectively

  • Additional resources to extend your learning

Laptop Setup

Students must bring their own laptop to the class.

Participants should download and install the following BEFORE the class:

  • Microsoft Excel 2016 or later

NOTE - The class materials assume Microsoft Excel on Windows. Contact us if Macs are to be used by students.

Day 2

Advanced Analytics with Excel - Logistic Regression Made Easy

In this hands-on class your team will learn the fundamentals of applying logistic regression to business data using Excel. Logistic regression is the most common predictive model used to answer business questions like “how likely is a customer to churn?”

Excel provides all the functionality needed for crafting logistic regression models on par with models from programming languages like R and Python.

After learning about the types of business problems that might benefit from logistic regression analyses, your team will learn how logistic regression can answer interesting business questions such as:

  • Given a customer’s behavior, how likely are they to convert to paying?

  • What factors are most important in determining if a customer will churn?

  • Does the interaction of certain product characteristics affect the likelihood of a warranty claim?

This training is specifically designed for any team with Microsoft Excel skills looking to have more impact using data. Professionals from areas like HR, Marketing, IT, Product Management, and Supply Chain have all learned how to apply predictive analytics to their business data via this course.

Want to know the best part? No programming is required!

Your Team Will Learn:

  • The type of business problems where logistic regression can be useful

  • The basics of probabilities and odds ratios

  • Templates that streamline logistic regression analyses in Excel

  • Using Excel’s Solver to train simple logistic regression models

  • Using Excel’s Solver to train multiple logistic regression models

  • Interpreting logistic regression models in terms of business drivers

  • Evaluating the effectiveness of your logistic regression models

  • How to communicate your insights effectively

  • Additional resources to extend your learning

Laptop Setup

Students must bring their own laptop to the class.

Participants should download and install the following BEFORE the class:

  • Microsoft Excel 2016 or later

NOTE - This course relies on the Excel Solver and the class materials assume Microsoft Excel on Windows. Contact us if Macs are to be used by students.

Day 3

Machine Learning Made Easy - No, Really!

Getting started with advanced analytics and machine learning can be intimidating. Where do I start? How much math do I need? What algorithms should I use? The good news is that getting started with machine learning is easy – no really, it is!

This hands-on introduction will provide your team with all the fundamentals for understanding and effectively training predictive models using the random forest algorithm. Focusing on core concepts and intuitions means that no complicated math is required, and the R code will be a breeze, even for first-timers.

With this understanding, your team be equipped to tackle the next topics: data analysis and feature engineering. We'll wrap up the day discussing how to determine if a machine learning model is any good. Lastly, your team will receive a road map of suggested topics/resources to use as they continue their predictive analytics journey.

While this course uses the R programming language, it has been specifically designed for any team wanting to have more impact using data.

Your Team Will Learn:

  • Machine learning to solve classification problems

  • The decision tree algorithm – including Pros/Cons

  • The mighty random forest algorithm and how it "fixes" decision trees

  • Testing your random forest for accuracy

  • Data analysis and feature engineering using random forests

  • Analyzing your feature engineering efforts – did they work?

  • Additional resources to extend your learning

Laptop Setup

Students must bring their own laptop to the class.

Participants should download and install the following BEFORE the class:

  • R and R Studio

Instructions for installing required software will be provided prior to class. Windows and Mac laptops can be used in this course.
